Topic: Film is thinking. Introduction to film philosophy. In the seminar we consider film as a practice of thinking and philosophy. A guiding question of the course is: Is film thinking and can film be considered as a vision of philosophy and the art of living?

A site-specific project by Hubert Lobnig and Moritz Matschke, Department of Artistic Practice.

The symmetry of the bridgehead buildings on Linz's Hauptplatz and the mirror-image sameness of the two facades are the starting point for a site-specific intervention by Hubert Lobnig and Moritz Matschke. The films, which are projected simultaneously by two projectors onto the two opposite facades, throw the architecture out of balance and turn its interior inside out. Through dreamlike swaying views and slow rotating movements, the building parts are tilted out of their stabilizing horizontal, start to sway, lose their stability.

Two mirror-like figures on the roof vary themes and riffs from the film music to Dead Man by Neil Young. The live and heavily distorted sound reinforces the surreality of the action. The video work Hydra by students Jennifer Eder and Robert Starzer (Visual Arts / Art and Education) is integrated into the projected image montages of the two artists. In it, they undertake journeys through the basement rooms of the buildings with ghostly animated figures from paintings of the Gurlitt Collection, which was initially housed in one of the bridgehead buildings before moving on to the New Gallery of the City of Linz and then to the Lentos. This creates a direct reference to the buildings' Nazi past.

The art project reflects the preference of totalitarian systems for simple forms of symmetry. At the same time, it shows the diverse forms of work at the University of Artistic and Industrial Design / University of Art Linz, and reaches deep into the subconscious.
