Postdigital Lutherie is a four-semester English-language Master's programme on Postdigital Musical Instrument Making at the intersections of design and technology, composition and performance, and art and media theories.
Musical instrument making can look back on a tradition that goes back thousands of years. In the last century, the development of electronic music and in recent decades - also due to the progressive digitalisation of music and the virtualisation of the
instruments - has experienced a rapid paradigm shift. Post-digital musical instrument making attempts to reflect this development and to bring together the diverse aspects of acoustic, electronic and digital design of musical instruments again in comprehensible physical sound objects. In this way, new creative and musical perspectives are to be prepared for an epoch that is now opening up of the pervasive digitalisation of all areas of life.
