DORFTV will not only be introducing itself as a community broadcaster, but will also be presenting its studio, located at Domgasse 1. Representatives from DORFTV will be available there to talk to visitors and provide information about how DORFTV can be used. This partnership offers students at the University of Arts the opportunity to use the station's infrastructure and make their creative work accessible to a wide audience.
Students can realize their creative visions and showcase their talents in non-commercial broadcasting at the local and national level.

In theProjectcourse, we explore envelopes and surfaces—material and image. Our starting point is metaphors, which we translate into materiality, light, and spatial situations. Kitchen Conversations takes place in the heart of our department—in the kitchen and cozy room—spaces that were designed and built entirely by students using reused materials as part of DIY courses. Here, you have the opportunity to get to know students, teachers, and assistants in an informal atmosphere.

The kitchen is the lively center of raum&designstrategien—a place where we cook, talk, celebrate, and build community. Together with the Cozy Room and the adjoining rooms, it forms a collective environment that was developed and realized entirely by students in self-build workshops using reused materials. These rooms embody our approach: learning by doing, building together, and consciously designing environments through care, collaboration, and resource conservation. During the Open Day, visitors are invited to enter this everyday space, meet students, teachers, and assistants, and engage in informal conversations about projects, study experiences, and life in the department.

For the expansion of the A26—the so-called Westring motorway through the middle of the city—hundreds of trees in Bergschlösslpark have been felled since the beginning of December under heavy police protection. Activists protested against the deforestation, occupied trees, slept in hammocks, set up a climate camp, and attempted to prevent the felling through civil disobedience. However, the police presence secured the operation and the felling was carried out.
In our studio, we are building a memorial monument from some of the felled and partially chopped tree remains from Bergschlösslpark, complemented by documentary photos and equipment from the protest.

Come along, experiment and experience printmaking!

Visitors can try out this special printing technique for themselves at the printing station. Using ink, presses, and various tools, they can create unique, one-of-a-kind prints—no prior knowledge required. Lecture focusing on industrial design

This lecture examines industrial design in the context of historical developments, the artistic process, economic responsibility, its cultural significance, and materiality.

A requiem for the trees cut down in the 300-year-old Bergschlösslpark in Linz. The trees had to be cut down to make way for a billion-euro highway project, which will degrade the quality of life in Linz by diverting more and more traffic into the city center. Some of the trees were 200 years old. Not only is it an important recreational area for the city, it is also a habitat for numerous bird species, bats, and other mammals and insects. 

The music was recorded on December 4—day 3 of the clearing—and on December 18—two weeks later at the tree cemetery. It is an expression of anger, frustration, sadness, and hopelessness.

Students from the Media Design course (teaching degree) will present the possibilities and technologies of 3D scanning and 3D printing to visitors. After an introduction to the study program, interested parties will take part in a guided tour of the various rooms at raum&designstrategien. This will give them the opportunity to learn about our transdisciplinary approach and the methodological approaches used by raum&designstrategien, as well as to ask questions. We deal with various aspects and discrepancies of archives in the context of time-based art such as performance, film, photography, and sound. Kitchen Conversations takes place in the heart of our department—in the kitchen and cozy room—spaces that were designed and built entirely by students using reused materials as part of DIY courses. Here, you have the opportunity to get to know students, teachers, and assistants in an informal atmosphere.

The kitchen is the lively center of raum&designstrategien—a place where we cook, talk, celebrate, and build community. Together with the Cozy Room and the adjoining rooms, it forms a collective environment that was developed and realized entirely by students in self-build workshops using reused materials. These rooms embody our approach: learning by doing, building together, and consciously designing environments through care, collaboration, and resource conservation. During the Open Day, visitors are invited to enter this everyday space, meet students, teachers, and assistants, and engage in informal conversations about projects, study experiences, and life in the department.

In this unit, you can witness the creation of a fabric live and understand how a loom works. Using a table loom, various weaves are explained in practical terms and their creative potential is demonstrated. Then it's on to the large treadle loom, where weaving with hands and feet is demonstrated.

Can painting be performative? Students from the Department of Painting and Graphic Arts at the University of Art and Design Linz find out in a performance inspired by Anne Carson's novel "Autobiography of Red."

Can painting perform? Students from the Painting & Graphics class at the University of Arts Linz find out in a performance inspired by Anne Carson's novel, Autobiography of Red.

A “novel in verse,” Autobiography of Red is based on “Geryoneis,” a poem written by Greek lyric poet Stesichorus in the 6th century BC, which tells the story of a red-winged monster named Geryon and his “heroic” killer, Heracles. Carson's work includes her translation of the existing fragments of this poem, and then expounds on the myth with a queer coming of age story about Geryon, set in the present day. Over the course of the semester, while reading this novel together, we simultaneously researched performative possibilities of painting, and more specifically, we found a shared interest in painting, text, and sound that could act as threshold experiences. We looked at ways in which paintings could play with the idea of the multiple—playing with opacity, reflection, and translucence. The performance itself is a Theater of the Multiple; multiple rooms, multiple performative modes, multiple ways of looking and listening.

Autobiography of Red is a shapeshifter. It is a book that has many heads, a form that reflects the body of the protagonist Geryon. It is a web of fragmentary, dreamlike scenes from the life of Geryon – a novel that defies summary, because in essence it is anti-whole. It is about questioning monstrosity. It is about subjectivity in motion. It is about alternative, anti-hero narratives. It is about alienation. It is about the fluidity of being. It is about queer sexuality. It is about becoming. How can painting be staged into this flux? Together as a class, we sought to approach these themes with the same multiplicity that the text itself offers. Ideas poured in, getting tangled in a matrix of collectivity, and in turn untangled to reveal what is possible in collective imagination.

We discovered ways in which text, sound, and painting could share a space in performance. Students took Anne Carson's own imaginative cues in her re-imagination of queer Geryon, and continued to rewrite the stories. These texts became integrated into a collaboratively built sonic fabric, which in turn integrated into a staged world of painting.

In this performance, we offer you a guided tour through a performative exhibition of E.A.C.H. through three spaces that offer three distinct worlds of Autobiography of Red.

What changes when we worship the toxic as if it were religious? In these catastrophic times, can a cosmic connection be achieved through a cult of pollution? Toxic Temple is an artistic and philosophical adventure in the sticky mess of the present.
We carry our inner contradictions and destructive desires to altars. We enter wastelands instead of new territory, leaving space for artifacts—a solidarity with the facts. We encounter colorful assemblages of things that connect the familiar cosmos, shaky foundations of new divinity, sharp smells that transport us to the sublime. Garbage dumps are the new temples. In sadistic mania, we breathe in the here and now. Transformative forces are unleashed, free radicals; rituals that expose the chaos beneath the surface.

Rojin Sharafi is a Tehran-born, Vienna-based sound artist, composer, and performer who works across electroacoustic music, noise, and experimental electronics. Her visceral sonic language blends analog, acoustic, and digital tools, exploring tension, rupture, and transformation. Praised by The Wire for her “thrilling, variegated” sound world, Sharafi’s latest album O.O.Orifice follows critically acclaimed releases including Urns Waiting to be Fed (2019), Zangaar (2020), and Kariz (2021). She also performs with the folk futurist ensemble HUUUM. Her work has been presented internationally, from London to New York, establishing her as a vital voice in experimental music.

Under the title *Strickeria*, the significance of knitting is explored from philosophical, anthropological, and perceptual-psychological perspectives. In this context, the act of knitting is detached from its utilitarian purpose and becomes a form of personal expression.

Following a short introductory talk, visitors are invited to try their hand at knitting. No prior experience is necessary. We look forward to seeing you there.

How does a loom work and how does a pattern get into the fabric?

This unit explains how a loom works. Using a tabletop loom, we will look at different weaves and try out how these patterns can be drawn on pattern paper in order to understand their internal structure. We will then move on to the large treadle loom, where we can try out weaving with our hands and feet.

During a guided tour of the studios and workshops, we provide insights into everyday student life at Fashion & Technology: the in-house bio lab presents the production of biomaterials, visitors can create their own knitting patterns in the knitting studio, and the Mac lab introduces the fashion design software CLO.

The videos shown were created as part of the course "Artistic Fundamentals of Video" at the Institute of Art and Design. The starting point was an examination of documentary strategies in art: How can the cinematic recording of events itself become an artistic act?

The students developed individual positions between documentation and staging, between research and poetic condensation. Their own recordings, interviews, and found footage merge with animated sequences to create cinematic investigations that address questions of authenticity, memory, and perception.

The screening invites viewers to understand these diverse approaches as a collection of artistic explorations—as an attempt to comprehend the documentary not as a representation, but as a process of searching, collecting, and reorganizing.

The tour provides insights into this ongoing, collective work process.

This tour takes place at the active construction site of the Re-Use Workshop in Domgasse, which is being developed in collaboration between raum&designstrategien and Textile·Art·Design. Invited to shape a joint process of spatial transformation, students from both departments are collaboratively exploring how existing spaces can be reactivated through reuse strategies, DIY practices, and material experiments. Instead of a finished result, the tour offers insights into an ongoing process—a dynamic place where design decisions, negotiations, and craftsmanship take place in real time. Can painting be performative? Students from the Department of Painting and Graphic Arts at the University of Art and Design Linz find out in a performance inspired by Anne Carson's novel "Autobiography of Red."

Can painting perform? Students from the Painting & Graphics class at the University of Arts Linz find out in a performance inspired by Anne Carson's novel, Autobiography of Red.

A “novel in verse,” Autobiography of Red is based on “Geryoneis,” a poem written by Greek lyric poet Stesichorus in the 6th century BC, which tells the story of a red-winged monster named Geryon and his “heroic” killer, Heracles. Carson's work includes her translation of the existing fragments of this poem, and then expounds on the myth with a queer coming of age story about Geryon, set in the present day. Over the course of the semester, while reading this novel together, we simultaneously researched performative possibilities of painting, and more specifically, we found a shared interest in painting, text, and sound that could act as threshold experiences. We looked at ways in which paintings could play with the idea of the multiple—playing with opacity, reflection, and translucence. The performance itself is a Theater of the Multiple; multiple rooms, multiple performative modes, multiple ways of looking and listening.

Autobiography of Red is a shapeshifter. It is a book that has many heads, a form that reflects the body of the protagonist Geryon. It is a web of fragmentary, dreamlike scenes from the life of Geryon – a novel that defies summary, because in essence it is anti-whole. It is about questioning monstrosity. It is about subjectivity in motion. It is about alternative, anti-hero narratives. It is about alienation. It is about the fluidity of being. It is about queer sexuality. It is about becoming. How can painting be staged into this flux? Together as a class, we sought to approach these themes with the same multiplicity that the text itself offers. Ideas poured in, getting tangled in a matrix of collectivity, and in turn untangled to reveal what is possible in collective imagination.

We discovered ways in which text, sound, and painting could share a space in performance. Students took Anne Carson's own imaginative cues in her re-imagination of queer Geryon, and continued to rewrite the stories. These texts became integrated into a collaboratively built sonic fabric, which in turn integrated into a staged world of painting.

In this performance, we offer you a guided tour through a performative exhibition of E.A.C.H. through three spaces that offer three distinct worlds of Autobiography of Red.
