Hands-on workshop and presentation by the Department of Teaching Methodology – Communication – Research

What would you like to see in terms of art and creative practices at school? Join us in developing ideas for teaching in the future.

In our teaching materials workshop, we invite visitors to reflect on their own experiences of teaching creative subjects. What art and creative practices have we encountered? Which artists and topics would we like to discuss? Which artistic or symbolically creative practices would we have liked to have heard about, talked about, or engaged with earlier? We, the Department of Didactics – Education – Research, invite you to think beyond the boundaries of European, male, and classical art history and conventional topics. We are interested in what concerns you in terms of artistic, media, and creative practices in your everyday life. We provide images, artists, examples, and materials for design, and everyone who participates works together to create a utopian curriculum.

Come along, experiment and experience printmaking!

Visitors can try out this special printing technique for themselves at the printing station. Using ink, presses, and various tools, they can create unique, one-of-a-kind prints—no prior knowledge required. They can give free rein to their creativity and take their personal work of art home with them right away.

Insights into Birgit Kriegner's course

The Presentation Techniques course teaches basic knowledge regarding the production and use of target group-oriented media. Professional design and layout of portfolios, publications, invitations, teaching materials, posters, and exhibitions. Creation and editing of image, sound, and video data according to technical, aesthetic, and subject-specific criteria. Expansion of understanding of art and media through personal practice and reflection.

A glimpse into the course Advanced Art Practice II (Farming this land) by Hubert Lobnig, Moritz Matschke, Josseline Engeler, and Iris Andraschek.

For one semester, we combine the practices of artists, farmers, gardeners, and researchers and explore the intersections of aesthetics, ethics, and economics....We plant, play, and research raised beds in an artistic way.

A small modification in the control logic allows home knitting machines to be converted so that they can knit any computer-generated image. Introduction and testing of first steps in how to knit with this new technology.

The videos shown were created as part of the course "Artistic Fundamentals of Video" at the Institute of Art and Design. The starting point was an examination of documentary strategies in art: How can the cinematic recording of events itself become an artistic act?

The students developed individual positions between documentation and staging, between research and poetic condensation. Their own recordings, interviews, and found footage merge with animated sequences to create cinematic investigations that address questions of authenticity, memory, and perception.

The screening invites viewers to understand these diverse approaches as a collection of artistic explorations—as an attempt to comprehend the documentary not as a representation, but as a process of searching, collecting, and reorganizing.
