Artistic practice
A site-specific project by Hubert Lobnig and Moritz Matschke
The symmetrical arrangement of the bridgehead buildings on Linz's Hauptplatz and the mirror-image sameness of the two facades are the starting point for a site-specific intervention by Hubert Lobnig and Moritz Matschke that reflects the preference of totalitarian systems for simple forms of symmetry. The films, which are projected simultaneously by two projectors onto the two opposite facades, unbalance the architecture and turn its interior inside out. Two mirror-like figures on the roof vary themes and riffs from the film music to Dead Man by Neil Young. The art project reflects.

The field of study is characterized by work in the workshops and studios of our three centrally located locations at the Kunstuniversität Linz. Here we think and make, invent and explore - on topics of past, present and future material cultures.
The study program Design:Technology.Textiles must be combined with another teacher training program. At the Institute of Art and Education, the study can be combined with "Visual Education" or "Media Design", but it is also possible to combine it with other subjects . The bachelor's program comprises eight semesters, the master's program four semesters.
In the first four semesters of the bachelor's programme, design, manufacturing and technical basics are predominantly developed in a project-oriented manner using materials and processes. The very well-equipped workshops and studios (wood, ceramics, metal, sewing, paper, screen printing, weaving, workrooms) are used for this purpose. At the same time, theoretical and didactic topics are introduced and discussed. Building on this, the focus from the 5th semester onwards is on project work, which emphasises the independent conception of projects, an in-depth study of self-chosen areas and the student's own creative-artistic practice. Students design their own lessons and gain their first experience with pupils in the practical courses. The presentation of their own work in the context of interdisciplinary collaborations, exhibitions and publications offers a platform for design discourse and exchange with the specialist community.
In the Master' s programme, innovation processes are initiated and reflected upon, design and art trends are discussed and new technologies are critically examined. The individual practice is accompanied by the research and conception of new mediation formats. The projects and the Master's thesis offer the opportunity to work on own/subject-related research questions in a targeted manner. The extensive Master's internship is all about professionalisation. Reflecting on one's own work within the framework of interdisciplinary projects and cooperation with other institutions/companies/partners is an important part of the course. Students thus contribute to the further development of the subject and consolidate their self-efficacy.
